#45. Keep the Plant Alive For a Year – Check?

This is really embarrassing to post, you guys.

One of my 101 in 1001 tasks was to get a plant (see exhibit a below), and then another follow-up task was to keep the plant alive for a year. Well, today is Day 365 of having a peace lily in the house, and I have no idea if it’s truly alive or not (see exhibit b). It doesn’t flower any more and there are less leaves, but it still kind of perks up when I remember to water it, so that counts right? I’m counting that as alive technically, but I don’t feel very good about checking it off the list.

Ugh, I’m even more embarrassed to see the side-by-side comparison! Did I totally fail this one? I just can’t figure out when to water it. This is supposed to be the easiest plant to take care of, too. The you-can’t-mess-it-up variety of greenery. Does anyone have any tips? If the leaves are crunchy but still green, do I cut those off? Can this plant be saved? It still has some life in it, I know it does!

Try some plant fertilizer and get te Aqua Globe… that way it waters it when it needs it.. but you still have to check the globe to make sure it has water…

Cut the dead parts off of the leaves … and water a little bit each day for like 2 weeks. it should perk up.

Ha! You’re like me. And the only plants I have in my house are 2 peace lilies and a bamboo thing. And they all go through these sad phases of droopiness. But my lilies do perk up when I am bettera bout watering them and they even surprise me with some flowers now and then. Does this ever get sunlight? Maybe you can move it to that big window (sliding glass door?) now and then for some sun? Good luck!

The peace lily is really easy to maintain. You know it needs water when it starts to droop like that. It’s talking to you: “Please help me, Susan! I’m soooooo thirsty! I’m begging you!”

Make sure it is in medium to low light as well as watering it every couple of days. Its a lily! It needs water! Peace Lily’s are also known for absorbing many toxins out of the air. The more toxins they absorb, the harder they work, the more water they need. =)

Mines Looks just like B. I put it in the dirt. But it started dying in dirt. So i put it in a vase and put water in it. It started perking up. But still looks like B. Why wont it take to the dirt.

I have given it the liquid food but I have been keeping it in water. Please help me. I dont want to see her die.
