  • Guest Books

I’ve finally gotten around to ordering a new sample of the wedding/event guest books that are available as an add-on to your wedding/event coverage! This particular book is an 8.5×11″ hardcover book with 20 pages and a wrap-around photo cover.

What I really love about this album is that the pages are hinged, so they lay so nice and flat while your guests are signing, and while you’re reading it. This design has photos from the couple’s engagement session with me, and plenty of white space throughout for signatures. (If you’d like to see the whole design, you can view it here.)

And just a few close-up details of the album. Hopefully you can see that the pages are quite sturdy, but still flexible like a coffee-table book.

  • Jeanne & Eric – 01.03.09

A few weeks ago, I finished up (or started up, depending on how you look at it) the wedding season tagging along with Kate Triano to a wedding in Alexandria. Eric and Jeanne, one of the sweetest most adorable couples ever, decided to see each other before the ceremony, which gave us plenty of time to do pictures of just the two of them and also get the family/group portraits out of the way.

Kate and I had fun shooting in the gorgeous lobby of the Hotel Monaco.

After taking a few portraits, we walked a few blocks down (it was such a nice day!) to St. Mary’s for the ceremony.

    Mr. and Mrs.!

    Lovely details from the reception:

The Christmas decorations were still up and the room had such a warm, festive glow.

Eric was such a trooper, and was still dapper on the dance floor despite his broken foot!

    Listening to heartwarming toasts:

Jeanne working it out on the dance floor with her sister:

My last shot of the night was a quick shot of the rings on a bright splash of color!

  • The Killers at the Patriot Center

Chris and I returned to our alma mater last night to see The Killers perform at the Patriot Center. It’s been a few years since I was on campus, so it was fun to reminisce a little bit before the show. And the show itself was simply (pardon the pun) killer. It had all of the showy aspects you’d expect from a band who hails from Las Vegas: effects like pyrotechnics, smoke and confetti, an awesome set with a hypnotizing light show, and just fantastic energy. As a side note, I happen to like the effects – I think they’re fun. The band sounded amazing. I like both the old and new songs, so I thought the set list was a good mix, but the crowd went nuts for the Hot Fuss and Sam’s Town stuff.

I was patted down from head-to-toe by security before the show, so I wasn’t able to bring my SLR with me this time (good thing I didn’t try), just the point-and-shoot. So all I have are a few technically imperfect images from far away, but I’ll post them for fun anyway:

    I’ve got:

    But I’m not a:

    Confetti!

    Pyro!

  • Hiking Great Falls

In continuing to complete all of the hikes in our little trail guide, Chris and I checked off Great Falls yesterday. We had been there before, but only to look at the falls from the overlooks. Yesterday we did the whole length of the River Trail, which was just a bit over three miles. A few images from the point-and-shoot:

Obligatory photo in front of the falls. Hey, everyone else was doing it!

And an obligatory picture in the “hole” created during the Ice Age.

The first half of the trail didn’t feel like the kind of hiking I’ve grown to love. The trails are wide, well-worn, and easy (with lots of man-made elements like staircases), and there were tons of people everywhere. I couldn’t believe how many people were at the park when it was about 35 degrees with a wind chill of well below that! But once we reached the part of the trail that gains quite a bit of elevation over trickier terrain, the crowd completely thinned out. We only saw two other hikers doing that part of the trail. And I can see why – I thought that part of the River Trail was actually a little scary. There are plenty of spots where the trail climbs over huge boulders only one foot away from the cliff’s edge. My nerves are also a product of how clumsy I am. If I can fall down a flight of stairs with railing (and trust me, I can), surely I could take the 70 ft. plunge into the Potomac if I lost my footing. And speaking of losing my footing, I’ll end this post with a photo from Chris’s favorite part of the day where we had to cross the part of the path that was flooded.

He went first on the ice around the left egde, and it was all creaky sounding in one spot. I followed shortly after, and that creaky spot cracked. I managed to make it out before I got wet though! Okay, this is after I was squealing, yelling and slipping all over, and Chris had to pull me along. I can’t believe I didn’t fall all over the ice. He said he wished he had a video of me crossing the ice. I hate to disappoint you, blog readers, but there’s no video of it.

  • Arti & Gautam – 11.22.08

It’s time to post Arti and Gautam’s wedding that I second-shot with Jenn Link! I’m really just not going to be able to describe this amazing, huge, lavish event all on my own. So, I’ll post a few of my random favorites here, and I’ll direct you to Jenn’s blog for the full story. She has put together a fabulous slideshow that really does give you an idea of just how exquisite this wedding was.

Gorgeous colors, textures, jewels and flowers completely transformed the Reston Hyatt ballroom:

The day started off for Gautam with a traditional Baraat outside of the Hyatt. It was cold, but everyone kept warm by dancing:

Back inside for the ceremony, Gautam awaits his bride:

Arti coming down the aisle. I’m pretty sure my jaw was on the floor at this point – she is stunning!

Walking together in a circle around the sacred fire:

A post-ceremony portrait in the lobby after an outfit change:

Some rich and luxurious ceremony details:

I thought these placecards were just so cute!

This is a family that really knows how to party. I had so much fun watching and photographing them dancing – with that kind of music and energy flowing, it was hard for me to stay still!

Arti and Gautam – this was such an amazing experience for me. I’m so glad to have been a part of your day! Thanks to Jenn for having me along!
