Alright morning people, spill it. What is your secret?! How do you wake up early (before 8am) and function? I know some of you prefer mornings…enjoy them, even. I don’t get it! I’ve been trying this week to get up 1 1/2 hours earlier than usual, and it just feels so bad. Okay, I know it’s only Tuesday and I’ve only done it twice in a row, but so far I’m not loving it and I never do. I went to bed at nine-thirty last night (it was practically still daylight), figuring that if I got my required 8 hours I’d happily bounce out of bed at 6:30am, but that didn’t happen. I went out for a walk right when I got up, and I pretty much wandered around Ashburn with my eyes closed. I drank a Diet Coke for a little caffiene boost, but that didn’t help either. So tell me, what are the tricks? I have a method to wake up and get out of bed on time – two alarm clocks plus Chris to tell me to get up – but what are the secrets of actually feeling bright-eyed and bushy-tailed?!

ahhhhhh, Susan
Wish I could help you here, but unfortunately I can’t. But I did want you to know that you’re not alone in this. I am very curious to see what tips you get. I need them as well!

Here are my tips for turning yourself into a morning person… get up at the same time every day for 2 weeks. Even if you are tired, immediately get up and do something. Your walk was a great idea! You can’t skip the weekends!! If you are out late, go ahead and take a nap later in the day, but you must get up early and go do something before! Don’t lounge in bed until after you’ve done something – even if it’s just walk to the kitchen to make coffee and out to the front stoop to pick up the paper.
I’m both a morning person and a night owl… not really sure that those 2 things make the best combo, since I don’t get too much sleep!

Jess – you’re my hero. A night owl AND a morning person?! Okay, I’ll try your tips and I’ll give this morning thing a few more weeks and report back.
Will – what do you say, are you going to give it a try, too?!

I had to get used to it when I did it. I can’t believe I used to wake up at 5am to run!! THAT will wake you up!! But its something you need to break into slowly, I think…. :):)

Not sure what to tell you. I just kind of get up and get going (sorry….). Maybe do what Jessica says and make yourself get up early every day for a while. I think your body adjusts. I notice that when my schedule changes and I have to get up even earlier than I’m used to – it takes a few weeks, but I eventually get in the groove. Good luck!

I’m SO not a morning person so I have no real advice for you. I’m told it gets easier the more you do it.
Good luck 🙂Cheers,

Hee, hee. Fun post, Susan. So–what’s the verdict? Did you tough it out and get up early for the rest of the week?! I am naturally a night owl. If I stay up past 10:00 I am WIRED and have a terrible time getting to sleep. Plus, nighttime is my only Me time. and the only time I have to work on photography b/c of my day job. BUT–I do love being up early. (Assuming I got some decent sleep.) I especially love being up early and feeling like one of the only people alive/awake. Like taking an early walk or drive. So peaceful. It’s that Me-Time thing, again. I love being alone.
