Happy New Year! *confetti* I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and are enjoying a peaceful start to the new year. I’m so excited for what’s coming up in 2014, but I also love to look back on the year behind and reflect on the highlights:

Snowboarding at Snowshoe, WV · Completing my Invisalign treatment (official photo from the orthodontist’s office!) · Celebrating the birth of Coelle’s baby girl · Photographing a few lovely weddings and getting a photo published in the Washington Post · Taking a guitar class · Traveling to breathtaking Tortola and Virgin Gorda · Meeting up with Casey in Orlando, FL to visit Universal/The Wizarding World of Harry Potter · Seeing awesome concerts including The Killers and Depeche Mode · Starting my yoga practice · Traveling to Puerto Rico and hiking in El Yunque · Cheering on the Caps at several games · Working on house projects including a bathroom mini-makeover · Visiting my family in Colorado and skiing for the first time in 20 years!

Not pictured are the lowlights of 2013 – wouldn’t that be a weird collage? It would include minor snowboarding injuries, Chris’s broken hand from softball, and my jaw surgery where one side of my face puffed up to the size of a grapefruit. But I’d always rather focus on the positives!

Chris and I have some really amazing plans for 2014 including learning to scuba dive (eep!), traveling to West Virginia, Grand Cayman, Iceland, and Colorado, and some house projects to keep us busy in between trips. I can’t wait to share some photos, and to hear about your own adventures! Hope your year is happy, healthy, and everything else you want it to be. 🙂

  • Adelyne

Here’s something a little different on the blog today! I don’t usually do newborn photography since I prefer to leave it up to those who specialize in it (seriously, I know next to nothing about newborn babies!), but I couldn’t resist photographing my friend Coelle’s sweet new baby, Adelyne. She is absolutely precious and she loved the camera! Addie refused to nap, but not in a fussy way at all – I think she didn’t just want to miss out on any photo ops. A few times she couldn’t help dozing off for a minute or two, but most of the time she was wide-eyed and posing for me. Coelle and her hubby, Corey, are going to be the most wonderful parents, and I’m so incredibly happy for them!

  • Frenchies!

I have a few really random things to post – photos that I took in the past year and just never blogged because of various excuses. So I’m going to play catch up over the winter months!

A few years ago, I photographed my friend Coelle’s new French Bulldog, Zoey. I even puppy-sat for her! She also showed up for Coelle and Corey’s engagement photos. And then in 2010 I photographed Zoey’s new little sister, Macey, though I don’t think I blogged an image of her. Here are the two sisters, Zoey and Macey, respectively:

And then this summer, Coelle’s parents welcomed a new little Frenchie into their home as well! This is Bria. She’s like, “Whaaaaaa?! Another Frenchie?” Yes! Another one. I am the official photographer of French Bulldogs. If that’s not a very specific niche, I don’t know what is.

Aren’t they all so cute? I could photograph those sweet adorable little smoosh-faces and big ears all day. So if anyone ever happens to need a photographer with a lot of French Bulldog experience, that’s me!

  • Happy New Year!

As a side note before anything else, when is the official cut-off date for saying Happy New Year? Since it’s my first post of the year, I think I can safely say it, but I’m still wondering about the official rule.

So, have I really not posted since the new year yet?! I guess I can believe it – I’ve been swamped! I’m desperately trying to catch up from the holiday slack and will be back soon with more regular updates. In the meantime, I’ll post one of my favorite images from a quick family session I did on New Year’s Eve. This is my friend Coelle and her brother, and this was all their idea (perfectly executed – look at that air!):

  • Facebook and Cheese Crackers

Susan Solo Photography is now on Facebook! We have our own shiny new page out there. I’m currently in the process of getting photos uploaded from past weddings and portrait sessions, so the page is slowly starting to buzz with activity. Stop by and check it out, and if you’re a fan of what we do, please feel free to become a fan on the Facebook page – it makes us feel super warm and fuzzy inside. 🙂

And as a completely random bit of fun, Chris and I were grocery shopping last weekend and were suddenly curious about the difference between Cheese Nips and Cheese-Its, and we decided to do a taste test comparison. I mean, how can they have two crackers on the market that look exactly the same? Yes, things are that exciting around here on Sundays!

Neither of us eat either brand of cheese crackers on a regular basis, so we feel that our test was unbiased and fair. We determined that the Cheese Nips seem to have more cheese flavor, and are lighter in texture. They’re 2 grams of fat less per serving, but have considerably more sodium than Cheese-Its. The conclusive results: we probably won’t buy either cracker again because Chris doesn’t really eat crackers, and I am more of a Goldfish kind of girl. Do you have a preference? Weigh-in on the cheese cracker debate!

As a side note, sometimes I ask Chris about things that I am about to post on my blog. I said, “Is the cracker thing stupid or funny?” and he declared it was funny, so blame him if this is just too far out there for you! Don’t worry, I have Coelle and Corey’s engagement photos coming up this weekend, so we will return to your regularly scheduled photo blog shortly.
